Bevel at a Glance

Bevel is made by Finerpoint, Inc. TechCrunch describes it as a New York based startup that started in late 2023 and raised a $10 million Series A from General Catalyst in October 2025. On the App Store it holds a 4.8 rating from about 16,000 ratings, and it ships often: eleven 3.1 versions came out between July 13 and September 14, 2026.

Free: Recovery, Sleep, Strain, Stress, and Energy Bank scores; nutrition tracking by barcode, image, recipe, or text, with a food database of more than 6 million items; Strength Builder with more than 700 exercises; fitness tracking, health monitors, cycle tracking, a smart alarm, a journal, and the Apple Watch app.

Bevel Pro: Bevel Intelligence, an AI coach that answers questions about your data, runs check-ins, and helps plan nutrition and training; Health Records for lab results and clinical documents; and Biological Age. Bevel 3.0, released in April 2026, rebuilt Bevel Intelligence around proactive check-ins, a files system for long-term memory, and AI-built training plans and strength workouts. Pro includes a weekly Intelligence allowance that resets every 7 days, and Bevel sells credit packs from $4.99 to $49.99 for heavier use.

Data sources: Apple Watch through Apple Health, direct Garmin and Oura connections, Google Health (which also carries Fitbit data), the Amazfit Helio Strap through Apple Health, and a one-way export to Strava.

Community: Bevel runs a public feature-request board, and the Bevel team says its subreddit generated more than 2,700 posts, 17,000 comments, 7,000 new members, and 2 million views in 2025.

Beacon at a Glance

Beacon is made by Ascend Studio Inc, which is us. It is on the App Store for iPhone and Apple Watch. It holds a 4.6 rating from 91 App Store ratings, so its public track record is far shorter than Bevel's.

Beacon Premium (the only plan): according to Beacon's help center, food and workout logging, every health data connection, the Sleep, Exercise, Diet, Focus and Mindfulness scores, AI-generated workouts and workout suggestions, AI coaching by text and live voice, choosing which device powers each metric, and Morning and Night Briefs. The Exercise score is built from muscle recovery, last night's sleep, HRV against your two-week average, training load and resting heart rate.

Food and training: log food by photo, barcode, voice, or restaurant search, with a USDA-backed database that tracks 15 nutrients per food. With Beacon Premium, the AI writes workouts from your recent training, per-muscle recovery, goals and equipment, with a strain map across more than 20 muscle groups.

Data sources: Apple Health on iPhone (which is how Garmin and other watches reach it), plus direct WHOOP, Oura and Withings connections. Fitbit data has no route into Beacon today.

Also included: breathwork and meditation timers, cycle tracking with phase-specific recommendations, and water and supplement tools.

Where Bevel Is the Better Pick

  • Track record. About 16,000 App Store ratings at 4.8, against Beacon's 91, and eleven releases in nine weeks this summer.
  • A big free tier. Everything except the AI coach, Health Records, and Biological Age is free, so you can use Bevel indefinitely without paying.
  • Strength training with Apple Watch. Strength Builder has more than 700 exercises, live sync between watch and phone, and live heart rate from AirPods Pro 3 or a Bluetooth sensor such as Fitbit Air.
  • Health records and Biological Age. Pro members can import lab results and clinical records and track a Biological Age in the same app.
  • A roadmap you can vote on. Bevel's public feature board shows what is under review, planned, in progress, and complete.

Where Beacon Is the Better Pick

  • Planning, not just scores. Beacon's category scores decide whether your daily plan suggests training or rest, and its AI writes workouts around your muscle recovery.
  • Detailed nutrient tracking. Log by photo, barcode, voice, or restaurant search, with 15 tracked nutrients per food.
  • Different direct connections. Beacon connects WHOOP directly. WHOOP does not appear in Bevel's list of supported integrations.
  • Mind as well as body. Breathwork and meditation timers are built in, logged against your Mindfulness score. There is no library of narrated sessions.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose Bevel if you are on iPhone, want the more proven tracker of the two, and like the idea of paying only if you later want an AI coach, health records, or Biological Age.

Choose Beacon if you want an app that tells you what to do today across training, food, and recovery, or you care about micronutrients.

Not sure? Bevel is free to start; Beacon is subscription-only, at $19.99/month or $119.99/year. On an iPhone both can read the same Apple Health data, so run each for a week and keep the one you actually open.

Where Beacon Fits

We make Beacon. It is built for the moment after the score: its category scores turn last night's sleep and this week's training into a training or rest suggestion, next to your food log, on iPhone. If that is what you are missing from a tracker, take a look at Beacon.

Limits to know: Beacon is subscription-only, with no free tier and no trial. There is no direct Garmin or Fitbit connection: Garmin data arrives only through Apple Health, Fitbit data cannot reach Beacon today, and Garmin's Body Battery and Training Readiness scores are not imported.

Is Bevel better than Beacon?

For an iPhone user who wants a proven, highly rated tracker with a lot free, Bevel is a strong pick. Beacon is the better fit if you want coaching that plans your day, or detailed nutrient tracking. We make Beacon, so weigh both and decide.

How much do Bevel and Beacon cost?

Bevel is free to start; Beacon is not. In the US App Store on September 14, 2026, Bevel Pro was $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year, with optional AI credit packs from $4.99 to $49.99, and Beacon Premium was $19.99 a month or $119.99 a year.
