About Beacon
Beacon is an AI-powered habit and health coach for iOS, made by Ascend Studio Inc in New York. It combines coaching conversations, adaptive training and nutrition plans, habit tracking across exercise, nutrition, sleep, mindfulness, focus, and curbing unwanted behaviors, and accountability with friends. Beacon integrates with Apple Health, Strava, Whoop, and Oura so coaching reflects your real data.
Permissions Beacon requests, and why
Every permission is optional and requested in context. The app works without them, with reduced functionality.
Apple Health (HealthKit)
Reads workouts, steps, energy, heart rate, sleep, and nutrition to power coaching, plans, and progress, and writes workouts and meals you log in Beacon back to Health. HealthKit data is never used for advertising and never sold.
Notifications
Habit reminders, coach messages, and progress updates you enable. Live Activities show session progress on the Lock Screen.
Screen Time (Family Controls)
Powers the focus sessions and app limits you configure. Apple’s framework keeps detailed usage data within iOS.
Location (while using)
Context-aware coaching, such as weather-appropriate suggestions, and workout route maps.
Camera, microphone, and speech
Scanning food barcodes, meal photos, and voice input, only when you open those features.
Frequently asked questions
How do subscriptions and billing work?
Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID. Manage or cancel anytime in iOS Settings under your Apple ID, then Subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
How do I delete my account and data?
Open your Profile in the app, then Settings, and choose account deletion. You can also email hello@ascendstudio.so and we will delete your account for you. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Why isn’t my Apple Health data showing up?
Open iOS Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Health, then Beacon, and confirm the data types you want Beacon to read are enabled. Data usually appears within a minute of reopening the app.
How do I connect Strava, Whoop, or Oura?
Open your Profile in the app, then connected services, and follow the sign-in flow. You can disconnect a service from the same screen at any time.
Is the coach’s advice medical advice?
No. Beacon is a wellness product, not a healthcare provider. Coaching content is informational and motivational. Talk to a qualified professional before making medical, dietary, or training decisions.
Focus sessions or app shields aren’t working
Screen Time features require iOS 18 or later and the Screen Time permission granted when prompted. If shields stop appearing, toggle the focus feature off and on in Beacon, and confirm Beacon is still authorized under iOS Settings, then Screen Time.

Beacon requires iOS 18.0 or later, supports Sign in with Apple and email sign-in, and offers account deletion in-app. HealthKit data is used solely for in-app coaching features as described in our Privacy Policy. Coaching is presented as wellness guidance, not medical advice, per our Terms of Use.
