Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

We collect “Non-Personal Information” and “Personal Information.” Non-Personal Information includes information that cannot be used to personally identify you, such as anonymous usage data, general demographic information, referring/exit pages and URLs, platform types, preferences you submit, and number of clicks. Personal Information includes information you provide during registration and use of the Service.

1.1 Information You Provide

When you register for an account, we collect your email address, name, and profile information (such as bio, avatar, and social links). You are authorizing us to collect, store, and use this information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

1.2 Apple HealthKit Data

With your explicit consent, Beacon AI may collect health and fitness data from Apple HealthKit, including but not limited to: steps, workouts, calories burned, distance traveled, heart rate, sleep data, and body measurements. This data is used solely to provide and improve the Service’s health tracking features.

We do not sell HealthKit data to third parties. We do not use HealthKit data for advertising or marketing purposes. HealthKit data is not shared with third parties except as necessary to provide the Service to you, and only with your explicit consent.

1.3 Third-Party Health Platforms

You may optionally connect third-party health platforms including Strava, Oura, and Whoop. When you choose to connect these services, we collect the health and fitness data you authorize from those platforms. These connections are entirely opt-in and can be disconnected at any time.

1.4 Google Calendar

You may optionally connect your Google Calendar. When you choose to connect it, we request the calendar.readonly and calendar.events scopes so the Service can show you your schedule, find free time around your existing commitments, and write Beacon-created workouts and activities onto a calendar you select. The calendar information we access is limited to event titles, descriptions, locations, start and end times, and the list of calendars on your account.

We do not keep a copy of your Google Calendar. Your calendar is read live from Google at the moment a feature needs it, used to answer that request, and not mirrored, indexed, or synced into our database. What we retain for the connection itself is the encrypted access and refresh tokens, your choice of which calendar to write to, and the identifiers of the events Beacon created on your calendar, so it can keep them up to date and remove them when you turn the feature off.

There is one exception you should know about. When you ask the AI coach something that depends on your schedule, the events it read (their titles, locations, and times) become part of that conversation, and the conversation is saved to your account so the coach can follow the thread and so you can scroll back through your chat history. Those saved conversations are deleted when your account is deleted, and you can request deletion at any time using the contact details in Section 7. Separately, if you set up a habit that is triggered by a calendar event, we store the words you asked us to match against your event titles or locations.

This connection is entirely opt-in and can be disconnected at any time from the Settings section of the App. Disconnecting deletes the stored tokens and asks Google to revoke the grant. You may also revoke access directly at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Google Calendar is the only Google Workspace service Beacon AI connects to. We do not access Gmail, Google Drive, Google Photos, or any other Workspace or Photos API.

Beacon AI’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

1.5 Apple Calendar

You may optionally let the App read your device calendar (Apple Calendar / EventKit) so the Service can reason about your schedule on iOS. Unlike Google Calendar, this feed is not read live: with your permission, the App uploads a rolling snapshot of your upcoming events, and we store the event title, location, start and end times, all-day flag, and the name of the calendar the event belongs to. Each upload replaces the previous snapshot, so events you delete or move on your device stop existing on our side at the next upload, and revoking calendar access in iOS Settings clears the stored snapshot. This data is used only to show you your schedule and to fit coaching around it.

1.6 Information Collected via Technology

We track information provided to us by your browser or application when you view or use the Service, such as the website you came from, the type of browser or device you use, the time and date of access, and other information that does not personally identify you. We use cookies and similar technologies to collect Non-Personal Information and keep a record of your preferences.

1.7 Analytics

We use third-party analytics services, including Mixpanel, PostHog, and Vercel Analytics, to help us understand how users engage with the Service. These services may collect information about your use of the Service, including pages visited, features used, and interaction patterns. This data is used to improve the Service and is subject to the respective privacy policies of these providers.

Our website does not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, an older standard that most browsers no longer send. We do recognize and process Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals: we treat a GPC signal as a request to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information, and of its processing for targeted advertising, as those terms are defined by applicable law, including the California Consumer Privacy Act.

1.8 Payment Information

Payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not directly collect or store your credit card number or banking information. Stripe’s collection and use of your information is governed by its own privacy policy.

1.9 Children’s Privacy

The Site, App, and Service are not directed to anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect or solicit information from anyone under the age of 13. If we learn that we have gathered personal information from anyone under the age of 13 without the consent of a parent or guardian, we will delete that information as soon as possible. 2. How We Use and Share Information

Personal Information

Except as otherwise stated in this Privacy Policy, we do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise share your Personal Information with third parties for marketing purposes without your consent. We share Personal Information with vendors performing services for the Company (such as email service providers and analytics platforms), who use your information only at our direction and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

We use Personal Information to communicate with you, respond to questions, provide technical support, and inform you about the Service.

We may share Personal Information with outside parties if we have a good-faith belief that access, use, preservation, or disclosure of the information is reasonably necessary to meet any applicable legal process or enforceable governmental request; to enforce applicable Terms of Use, including investigation of potential violations; to address fraud, security, or technical concerns; or to protect against harm to the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public as required or permitted by law.

Artificial Intelligence Services

Beacon AI’s coaching features are built on large language models operated by third-party providers. To generate a response, we send the model the context it needs for that request, which may include your health and fitness data and, where the feature depends on your schedule, your Google Calendar information. The AI providers we use are Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and xAI for language models, and Deepgram for speech recognition. We access each on a paid commercial tier. Where your device supports it, dictation is transcribed on-device by Apple’s speech recognition and never leaves your phone.

We do not use, and will not authorize any third-party service provider to use, your Personal Information, including your Google Calendar information, to develop, improve, or train any generalized or foundational large language, generative AI, or machine learning model. This commitment binds the AI providers above and every other vendor that processes data on our behalf. Where the Service tailors coaching to you individually, that personalization is applied only to deliver features you use inside Beacon AI, and never to train models that serve anyone else.

Google Calendar information reaches only the coaching features that reason about your schedule. It is never sent to xAI or Deepgram, which operate solely on the live voice coach and have no access to your calendar. Beacon AI does not access the Google Photos API, and no Photos data is sent anywhere.

Beacon AI’s use of raw or derived user data received from Workspace APIs will adhere to the Google User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. This data is not used for advertising, is not sold, and is not used to create, train, or improve any generalized or foundational AI or machine learning model.

Non-Personal Information

We use Non-Personal Information to improve the Service and customize the user experience. We also aggregate Non-Personal Information to track trends and analyze use patterns. This Privacy Policy does not limit our use or disclosure of Non-Personal Information, and we reserve the right to use and disclose such information to our partners, advertisers, and other third parties at our discretion.

3. How We Protect Information

We implement security measures designed to protect your information from unauthorized access. Your account is protected by your account password, and we urge you to take steps to keep your personal information safe by not disclosing your password and by logging out of your account after each use. We further protect your information from potential security breaches by implementing encryption, firewalls, and secure socket layer technology. However, these measures do not guarantee that your information will not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by breach of such security measures. By using our Service, you acknowledge that you understand and agree to assume these risks.

4. Your Rights Regarding Your Personal Information

You have the right at any time to prevent us from contacting you for marketing purposes. When we send a promotional communication, you can opt out by following the unsubscribe instructions provided in each promotional email, or by adjusting your preferences in the Settings section of the App.

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your Personal Information by contacting us at hello@ascendstudio.so. You may also disconnect any third-party integration (Strava, Oura, Whoop, Google Calendar) and revoke HealthKit or Apple Calendar permissions at any time through your device settings. Disconnecting Google Calendar deletes the stored tokens for that connection and asks Google to revoke the grant. Revoking Apple Calendar access clears the stored snapshot of your device calendar.

5. Links to Other Websites

As part of the Service, we may provide links to or compatibility with other websites or applications. However, we are not responsible for the privacy practices employed by those websites or the information or content they contain. This Privacy Policy applies solely to information collected by us through the Site, App, and Service. We encourage our users to read the privacy statements of other websites before proceeding to use them.

6. Changes to Our Privacy Policy

The Company reserves the right to change this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use at any time. We will notify you of significant changes by sending a notice to the primary email address specified in your account or by placing a prominent notice on our Site or App. Significant changes will go into effect 30 days following such notification. Non-material changes or clarifications will take effect immediately. You should periodically check the Site and this privacy page for updates.
