Best WHOOP Alternatives in 2026 (Cheaper, No Subscription)

Short answer: The best WHOOP alternative for most people is the Garmin Cirqa at $199.99: a screen-free band with HRV status, training readiness, Body Battery and recovery time, up to 10 days of battery, and no subscription. On a budget, Google's Fitbit Air costs $99.99 and includes a Readiness score, HRV and sleep stages without paying for Premium. For sleep in a ring, the Oura Ring 5 (from $399 plus a membership) is our pick if you will pay the membership, and the RingConn Gen 2 Air ($199, no subscription) is the value pick. If you already own an Apple Watch, a recovery app beats buying new hardware. Stay on WHOOP if its strain and recovery coaching is what you actually use, or if you want an on-demand ECG in a band.

Prices come from each maker's US store or official pages, and we checked what every device sends to Apple Health and Health Connect, because that decides which apps can use your data later. For a wider ranking of devices that never charge a fee, including watches, see the best fitness trackers without a subscription.

WHOOP Alternatives Compared

Device Type Price Subscription Battery Recovery-style metrics
WHOOP One (for reference) Band $199/yr, device included Required 14+ days Recovery, Strain and Sleep scores
Garmin Cirqa Band $199.99 Not required Up to 10 days Training readiness, HRV status, Body Battery, recovery time
Google Fitbit Air Band $99.99 Not required; Premium optional Up to a week Readiness, Cardio Load, HRV, sleep stages
Polar Loop Band $199.99 None Up to 8 days Nightly Recharge, HRV during sleep, training load
Amazfit Helio Strap Band $99.99 Not required Up to 10 days Daily readiness, sleep HRV, training load, recovery time
Oura Ring 5 Ring From $399 $5.99/mo or $69.99/yr 6 to 9 days Readiness, sleep stages, HRV, temperature trends
RingConn Gen 2 Air Ring $199 None Up to 10 days HRV, blood oxygen, skin temperature, Stress Score
Ultrahuman Ring PRO Ring $479 None for your data; paid add-ons Up to 15 days Recovery score, sleep stages, HRV
Samsung Galaxy Ring Ring $399.99 list None Up to 7 days Energy Score with sleeping heart rate and HRV

Stock matters as much as price right now. On September 14, 2026, Amazfit's US store showed the Helio Strap as sold out, Garmin's US store listed an 8 to 12 week shipping estimate for the Cirqa, and Ultrahuman listed the Ring PRO as a US pre-order shipping from September 15. Samsung's US ring page also advertised the Galaxy Ring from $299.99 before trade-in, below its $399.99 list price.

What It Costs Over Three Years

Option Year one Three years
WHOOP One $199 $597
WHOOP Peak $239 $717
WHOOP Life $359 $1,077
Google Fitbit Air, no Premium $99.99 $99.99
Google Fitbit Air with Premium after the trial $189.90 $429.66
Garmin Cirqa $199.99 $199.99
Polar Loop $199.99 $199.99
RingConn Gen 2 Air $199 $199
Oura Ring 5 with annual membership About $469 About $609

These figures use US list prices and assume renewals at today's rates. Three of the alternatives cost roughly one year of WHOOP One once, and then nothing more. Rings are the exception: an Oura Ring 5 with a membership costs about as much over three years as WHOOP One, so buy a ring for comfort and sleep tracking, not to save money.

Best WHOOP Alternative Without a Subscription: Garmin Cirqa

Garmin announced the Cirqa Smart Band on July 21, 2026 as its first screen-free band, with its features available without the need for a subscription. It tracks sleep stages and a sleep score, HRV, respiration, Body Battery, Pulse Ox, stress and skin temperature, then adds training readiness, HRV status, VO2 max, training status, workout benefit and recovery time. You can wear it on the wrist or as an arm band, it lasts up to 10 days per charge, and it works with iPhone and Android through Garmin Connect.

Training readiness and Body Battery are the closest thing in this price range to a WHOOP recovery score. Garmin also sells an optional Connect+ plan ($6.99 a month or $69.99 a year) and says existing Garmin Connect features remain free. The catch is supply: when we checked, Garmin's US store listed an 8 to 12 week shipping estimate. For a head-to-head, see Garmin Cirqa vs WHOOP.

Best Cheap WHOOP Alternative: Google Fitbit Air

Google announced the Fitbit Air on May 7, 2026, starting at $99.99. It is a screenless band with up to a week of battery, and the Base tier included with the Google Health app covers steps, Cardio Load, a Readiness score, Sleep Score and sleep stages, heart rate, HRV, breathing rate and blood oxygen. It also offers heart rhythm monitoring with AFib alerts, and it works with Android 11 or later and iOS 16.4 or later.

The upsell is Google Health Premium, which renews at $9.99 a month after a three-month trial and adds Google's Gemini-built health coach, adaptive fitness plans and detailed sleep insights. You do not need it for the core numbers, but it is the part that most resembles WHOOP's coaching. The other $99.99 option, the Amazfit Helio Strap, has daily readiness, sleep HRV and training load with no required subscription, but it was sold out on Amazfit's US store when we checked.

Best No-Fee Band for Training Recovery: Polar Loop

Polar launched the Loop on September 3, 2025 as its first screen-free, subscription-free wearable, and its US page promises no monthly fees and no locked features. At $199.99 it tracks HRV while you sleep, sleep stages, Polar's Nightly Recharge overnight recovery reading and training load, with up to 8 days of battery. It needs iOS 17 or later or Android 8 or later and the Polar Flow app.

Check sync before you pick it to feed another app: Polar's Apple Health sync sends sleep duration but not sleep stages, and it does not sync continuous heart rate, while its Health Connect sync includes sleep stages.

Best WHOOP Alternative for Sleep and Recovery

If you mainly used WHOOP for sleep and recovery, a ring is the most comfortable overnight alternative, and the real decision is whether to pay a membership.

  • Oura Ring 5, from $399: sleep stages, HRV, nighttime blood oxygen sensing and a Readiness Score that uses temperature trends, with 6 to 9 days of battery depending on ring size. The catch is the membership at $5.99 a month or $69.99 a year. Without it, Oura shows only your three daily scores, and its Apple Health and Health Connect integrations require an active membership on Gen3 and newer rings.
  • RingConn Gen 2 Air, $199: no subscription, with HRV, blood oxygen, skin temperature and a Stress Score, and up to 10 days of battery. Oura's patent case no longer affects RingConn in the US: the two companies settled with a patent license, and the ITC lifted its orders against RingConn in December 2025. RingConn's Health Connect sync does not include HRV yet.
  • Samsung Galaxy Ring, $399.99 list: no subscription, with an Energy Score built from sleep, activity, sleeping heart rate and sleeping HRV. It requires Android 11 or later and Samsung Health, and features like gestures and Find My Ring need a Galaxy phone.
  • Ultrahuman Ring PRO, $479: up to 15 days of battery, and Ultrahuman says there are no recurring subscription fees for accessing your data, though some targeted features, such as the $24-a-year Cardio Adaptability PowerPlug, cost extra. According to Oura, the ITC's 2025 ruling effectively banned the import and sale of Ultrahuman's earlier rings in the US; US Customs later ruled that the redesigned Ring PRO is not subject to that exclusion order.
  • Garmin Index Sleep Monitor, $169.99: not a daytime WHOOP replacement, but a sleep-only band worn on the upper arm that tracks sleep stages, HRV status, breathing variations and skin temperature, with up to 7 nights of battery with continuous Pulse Ox.

If you want that sleep data inside another app, check the sync table below first. Oura's documented Apple Health export does not include HRV, and RingConn's Health Connect export does not include HRV either.

Best WHOOP Alternative if You Already Own an Apple Watch

The cheapest WHOOP alternative is often software. If you already wear an Apple Watch, a recovery app can use the health data your watch records to give you a daily readiness score, with no new band to buy. We compared the main options in the best recovery apps for Apple Watch and Athlytic vs WHOOP.

Best WHOOP Alternative for Strength Training

Lifters usually need set, rep and progression tracking alongside recovery data. See the best WHOOP alternative for strength training for setups built around lifting.

What You Give Up by Leaving WHOOP

  • One coaching loop. WHOOP's recovery score, strain target and sleep need tell you what to do today. Garmin's training readiness and Body Battery come closest; Fitbit Air gives you a free Readiness score but keeps its coach in Premium.
  • Hardware bundled with the fee. WHOOP's device comes with the membership, and upgrade eligibility depends on how much membership you have left. Buy a band outright and a replacement is on you.
  • An on-demand ECG in a band. WHOOP MG, on the $359 Life tier, takes ECG readings from its clasp. None of the alternatives here list an on-demand ECG, though Fitbit Air has AFib alerts and Ultrahuman offers AFib detection as a PowerPlug.
  • Your WHOOP history. Years of WHOOP scores do not carry over to a new app, so give any new device a few weeks before you judge its readiness numbers.

Why People Are Looking for WHOOP Alternatives

Three things changed. The first is math: WHOOP One costs $199 every year, while the Garmin Cirqa, Polar Loop and RingConn Gen 2 Air each cost about that once. The second is trust: two days after WHOOP 5.0 launched in May 2025, and after member feedback, WHOOP revised its upgrade policy, refunded upgrade fees paid by members with more than 12 months remaining, and corrected an older blog post that had wrongly said six months of membership earned a free upgrade. The third is competition: Polar, Google and Garmin all launched screen-free bands that do not require a subscription between September 2025 and July 2026.

None of that makes WHOOP a bad product. It makes the membership something to choose on purpose. If you are still deciding, is WHOOP worth it covers who should keep paying, and WHOOP MG vs WHOOP 5.0 covers which tier to pick.

Check Sync Before You Buy

If you ever want your data in another app, what a device writes to Apple Health or Health Connect matters as much as what it tracks.

Device Apple Health Health Connect
WHOOP Syncs activities, per WHOOP's App Store listing Syncs activities and health data, per WHOOP's Play listing
Garmin Cirqa One-way: steps, sleep, heart rate, workouts; no HRV One-way on Android 14 or later: steps, heart rate, sleep stages; no HRV
Google Fitbit Air Writes steps, sleep stages, heart rate, blood oxygen; not HRV Writes steps, sleep stages, heart rate, HRV; not blood oxygen
Polar Loop Workouts, steps, sleep duration; no sleep stages or continuous heart rate Sleep stages, resting heart rate, steps, workouts
Oura Ring 5 Membership required: sleep stages, heart rate, workouts; no HRV Membership required: sleep, heart rate, HRV
RingConn Gen 2 Air Data types not documented Sleep stages, heart rate, blood oxygen, steps; no HRV
Samsung Galaxy Ring Not available; the ring requires Android Via Samsung Health: steps, exercise, heart rate, sleep
Amazfit Helio Strap Supported; data types not documented Not documented

Where Beacon Fits

Beacon is not a device, so it does not replace any hardware above. It replaces the part you lose when you leave WHOOP: the interpretation layer. Beacon, which we make, reads Apple Health (which is how Garmin, Polar, Amazfit and Ultrahuman data arrive) and connects directly to Oura, WHOOP and Withings, then puts your sleep, HRV, training and meals next to each other, with its own category scores deciding when to suggest a rest day. Fitbit data has no route into Beacon today, and Beacon has no recovery or strain score of its own, though WHOOP's recovery and strain data are synced. If you buy a Cirqa or a RingConn to escape the membership and find yourself staring at numbers with no plan attached, that is the gap Beacon is built for.

One honest limit: Beacon can only coach on data it can see. If a device does not export a metric, as with HRV from RingConn, no third-party app receives it, Beacon included, and Oura only shares data with other apps while your Oura membership is active.
