Whoop

Whoop measures recovery and strain continuously. Beacon reads both, so the plan it builds can respond to a bad night rather than ignore it.

What Beacon reads

  • Recovery — Whoop's recovery percentage, resting heart rate, HRV (RMSSD), blood oxygen and skin temperature.
  • Sleep — deep, light, REM and awake time, efficiency, respiratory rate, Whoop's sleep-performance and consistency scores, and its sleep-need breakdown.
  • Workouts — sport, duration, strain, average and max heart rate, calories, distance and time in each heart-rate zone.
  • Body measurements — height and weight.

Whoop's own scores are the exception to what you will actually see. Beacon reads the recovery percentage and the sleep-performance score, but it does not show them or score from them: your Sleep and Exercise scores are computed from the underlying HRV, resting heart rate and sleep data. Whoop's day strain is not read at all. If Whoop's recovery colour is the number you want, that stays in Whoop's app.

What Beacon writes back

Nothing. The connection is read-only — Beacon asks Whoop for no write access and has no code that could send anything back.

History and freshness

Connecting imports 90 days. After that, Beacon polls roughly every 15 minutes, and Whoop also notifies Beacon when something changes.

Good to know

  • Whoop publishes no single "total sleep" figure. Beacon adds deep, light and REM to get one, and leaves it blank rather than guessing if any stage is missing from a night.
  • Weight from Whoop has no history. Whoop returns one current body measurement with no date attached, so Beacon records it against the day it imported. For a real weight trend, connect Withings or log in Apple Health.
  • Some Whoop activities are skipped. Whoop's auto-detected "activity", "commuting", "meditation" and "other" buckets aren't treated as workouts. Sports Beacon doesn't have a mapping for still import and keep Whoop's own label.
  • Whoop doesn't say whether you were indoors. Beacon infers it for a couple of sports and otherwise leaves it open.
  • Disconnecting deletes the Whoop data Beacon holds. That's a deliberate, conservative reading of Whoop's terms. If you reconnect later, Beacon re-imports what Whoop still has — but anything Whoop has aged out is gone.
